The team made the long trip to Skyline High School in Front Royal to compete in the Appalachia Duals team tournament.  Once again, the Cavaliers started out in a hole having to forfeit two weight classes due to another medical issue with DJ McDaniel.  First up was the higher seeded team from Loudoun County who the Cavaliers handled by a final score of 48-31.  Next up was the number two seed and eventual champion, Franklin County.  The Cavs would prove to be one of the toughest opponents for the Eagles, but eventually fell by a 49-28 score.  Rounding our the first day of competition, JF handily defeated Fluvanna 60-18.  This match featured quick first period falls in all the matches from 145 through 285, except a forfeit at 182, and continued at 106.  The second day would prove more trying for the team as they competed in the upper bracket against the top seeded Millbrook team.  With strategic moves by Coach Hutch and some inspired wrestling by some of the team, the Cavaliers gave the Pioneers all they wanted.  In the end, Millbrook escaped with a 39-36 win.  With the loss to Millbrook, the team dropped to the consolation bracket and faced the host team, Skyline.  After some strong performances by several wrestlers, and some not so inspiring matches by others, the team fell in a close match by a final score of 36-34.

The team had three individuals to go undefeated for the tournament, including  freshman 106 pounder Bret Romanzak.  All of Bret’s victories came by falls except one, running his season record to 14-3, including eight straight wins.  Joey Nigro was back in the varsity lineup at 120 and finished with a 1-4 record.  Peyton Woodall was one of the other wrestler’s with a perfect 5-0 mark at 126 pound weight class, including all three first day victories by fall.  Ford Carmack was 2-3 at 132 and scored both his victories by pinning his Franklin County and Fluvanna opponents.  Taylor Almand was back in the varsity lineup at 138 with a 0-4 record.  At the 145  pound weight class, Caleb Prather had a solid tournament with a 3-2 record, including a 5-4 victory over his 6th ranked opponent Bass of Skyline High School.  Forrest Speake, who also beat a ranked wrestler from Millbrook by a fall, went 4-1 at 152.  All four of Forrest’s wins were by falls.  Josh Bowyer at 160 for most of the tournament, was the only other wrestler to finish with an undefeated record at 5-0.  Three of his victories were by fall, while the other two were convincing wins.  Alex Cox who wrestled the first day at 170 and the second at 182, finished up with a 4-1 record.  Alex’s only loss was at the hands of his Franklin County opponent by a fall in the third period while leading 6-0.  James Jackson competed at the 182 class the first day and 170 the second day and went 1-3 for the tournament.  Eric Wellman also moved between two weight classes during the tournament, going from 195 to 220 when needed.  Eric won all three matches at 195 and picked up another victory at 220, going 4-1 during the event.  Cody Graybill finished the tournament with a 3-2 record at the heavyweight class, while scoring a quick pin in his first match.
